New cell phone policy

Cell phone procedures

On Retreat:

When you arrive at check in for the retreat, you will receive a Ziploc bag to place your phone in and write you name on. This includes all Core Members.  All bags will be held by Amanda or Cathleen and returned to you in time to contact your parents to pick you up on the way home. Anyone who does not turn in a phone, or does not have a parent talk to the Core Member in charge of check-in to affirm that the teen does not own a phone, will not be allowed on the retreat.

At Life Nights or Edge Nights:

During snack time, phones are allowed to be used, provided they are not distracting or disruptive and are being used for appropriate things. Once the night begins, all phones need to be put away. If a phone is seen, the teen will be asked to place it in a designated spot (a box or cubby) for the remainder of the night. They may also ask the Core member to place it in the box for them. Leadership Team is empowered to ask any Core Member who has their phone out to place it in the box as well. The exception to this is if the phone is being used to take pictures of the night or another ministry related reason.

At Events (baseball game, Alki beach, socials, ect):

Phones are to be used for documentation, not communication. If you want to use your phone to take and post a picture to one of your social media accounts, that is fine – but not to be in communication with people not on the event (via text or Snapchat or any other means) or scrolling through feeds and stories.

On High School Mission Trips:

You will have your phone during the day, for safety, communication, and documentation. If you want to use your phone to take and post a picture to one of your social media accounts, that is fine – but not to be in communication (via text or Snapchat or any other means) with people not on the mission trip or scrolling through feeds and stories. Between the end of the work day and dinner, phones can be used to call or FaceTime with family back home, but must be turned in for the night at dinner. Amanda will have a bank of plugs for phones to be charged overnight.

On Junior High Mission Trips:

When you arrive at check in for the mission trip, you will receive a Ziploc bag to place your phone in and write you name on.  All bags will be held by Amanda or Cathleen and returned to you in time to contact your parents to pick you up on the way home. Anyone who does not turn in a phone or does not have a parent talk to the Core Member in charge of check-in to affirm that the teen does not own a phone, will not be allowed on the mission trip.
