One amazing week

Sean Morrisey
This week was different for me than for everyone else because I have a back injury and can’t do a whole lot of manual labor. It wasn’t as physically exerting for me, but it was still a difficult week. I was sick for all of it and was in pain almost all the time. But it was still one of the best weeks of my life. I did vacation bible school for the Zuni kids on Tuesday with our group and Thursday with the group from California. I did it twice because it was work that I could do with an injured back. Working with the kids at vacation bible school was the highlight of my week, so it worked out very well. Playing games with them, singing and dancing to praise and worship songs with them, performing skits for them, and doing arts and crafts with them made me forget about all my pain and problems with my body. The joy I saw in their faces and the laughter made me forget about all that. They were so excited to do everything and knowing that I could make them that happy while bringing them the gospel gave me this extreme sense of satisfaction and joy. Wednesday night was adoration, which was my other highlight of the week. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life. The talks that Mike, one of the Core members from Louisiana, gave were very moving. The songs that the band played were some of the most moving praise and worship songs I’ve heard. I went to confession, and one thing the priest said to me will forever make me want to go to confession more often. He told me after I confessed to him that my confession made Jesus extremely happy. When he said that, I almost broke down, and a huge smile came onto my face. That was just what I needed to hear to make me want to go to confession as often as I can. Later that night, still in adoration, I broke down. I have never cried so much or so hard in my life. It was just so moving and so beautiful, and everyone there made the experience ten times more powerful. It was one of the best nights of my life.

This week has been so incredible altogether. There was not one day or one activity that I didn’t love doing. I saw God’s spirit in everything our group participated in this week and all the ways we set out to help people. All of the projects we took on were indirectly helping people, behind the scenes in a way, with the exception of the vacation bible school with the kids and talking to the elderly at Little Sisters of the Poor, but no matter what it was, the Holy Spirit was there through everything. Our Holy Family group became so much closer over this past week and our bond will only grow stronger from here on. This experience was definitely life changing in so many ways and I will never forget all the new friends I made from Louisiana and California, the amazing people I met from New Mexico, and the memories we made along the way. It was the best week of my life.
